… Igbo Key Pillar In The Foundational Tripod Of The Nigerian State
… Prof. Yusuf, Igbo Wealth and Presidential Succession
Dr. Godwin Onuoha, who obtained his LL.M in Comparative Constitutional Law from the Abia State University and Ph.D. in Comparative Constitutionalism and International Human Rights with a special focus on Relativity and Geo- stratification of Constituent Power, from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He is also a well-known expert in constitution-making in Nigeria, has practiced and lectured in Law for so many years reacted on the recent remark made by Professor Yusuf
According to Dr. Onuoha, on the remark credited to one Professor Yusuf, ‘to the effect that the Igbos should give their wealth to the North in exchange for the presidency of Nigeria come 2023’, is very unfortunate, to say the least, and depicts the degree of hatred of the Igbos by certain elements in the north despite the level of education of Professor Yusuf and people like him in Northern Nigeria.
Onuoha questioned the credibility of the so-called professor, he asks Professor Yusuf, what the North gave to the Igbos and people from the other geo-political zones of this country to ascend the presidency of Nigeria in 1979 through former President Shehu Shagari, and later, through President Muhammadu Bahari in 2015 and 2019.
He questions the Northerners they were about when the Igbos were making all the wealth in the North and other parts of Nigeria from their hard work of trading from the colonial times to date. He asked if the north want to reap where they did not sow and it is an obvious mockery of the Igbos or, is the presidency of Nigeria an exclusive property of northern Nigeria, he said.
Dr. Onuoha queried Professor Yusuf’s academic background if he is truly a “Professor” (meaning man of knowledge) that makes him talk like a child, especially against the backdrop of charged ethnic sensitivity in the maelstrom of Nigeria’s current geopolitical conundrum. Why should supposedly educated adults like Professor Yusuf talk like children or people from outer space or does this reflect the general opinion of Northerners he asked.
“What wealth did the Yorubas and the people of the South-south give to the other parts of Nigeria before each of those groups ascended the presidency of Nigeria in 1999 and 2010, respectively? Why then must the Igbos give their wealth as a condition for ascending the Nigerian Presidency in 2023”.
Onuoha thinks this is pure insolence to an entire national group – a key pillar in the foundational tripod of the Nigerian State!!! and call for enough of the insolence! This world – the Federal Republic of Nigeria inclusive – is owned by God Almighty, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, and not by Northern Nigeria or its ruling cabal.
He warns, that Professor Yusuf and his likes in the northern cabal must constantly bear this immutable fact in mind at all times. The Southeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria will ascend the presidency in 2023 and this country will move forward with or without the likes of Professor Yusuf and his cohorts, he concludes.
