Dr. Godwin Onuoha charges the Ohaneze Ndigbo on the selection of the candidates of the southeast geopolitical extraction on choosing a candidate for the presidential succession in 2023.
I should think that the most serious candidates of Southeast geo-political extraction for the Nigerian Presidency in 2023 since we must field only politically-exposed persons, names that the whole country is already very familiar with are:
Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo: Prof. Soludo is a renowned, world-class Economist who is also very focused and reliable, he is a tested material. I believe he will deliver very well. He is a Macro-Economic guru and clearly, a genius and a realist. He ranks No.1 in my estimation. Let the Southeast geopolitical zone give this vibrant, highly talented young man a chance just as Americans gave a relatively unknown Senator Barack Obama a chance in November 2008.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe: He was Deputy Governor of Abia State under former Governor (now Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. He refused to compromise his principles or condone evil/Vodoo practices. He has since then been an outspoken and fearless Senator, always standing up for Southeast interests in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria even at the risk of his own personal safety. I think he is worthy material for the job on the platform of the Southeast geopolitical zone.
Peter Obi: Mr. Peter Obi is a very viable option, he has a brilliant mind and he is a good man. His records as former Governor of Anambra State for eight years are heart-warming. He is principled and authentic in his conduct and utterances. Having run as Vice-Presidential candidate with Alhaji Abubakar Atiku in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) I believe this also helps to make him nationally electable in 2023 and should therefore is considered as well for the top job.
The Igbos wouldn’t want any President of Southeast geopolitical extraction that will go there to pander to Islamic-Fulani politico-religious interests or hidden agenda or fail to defend Southeast core geopolitical interests when the chips are down. We don’t want the current plight of Imo State (our own dear Imo State) to afflict the Southeast geopolitical zone in 2023! Please let’s all pray for the survival of Imo State currently in the strangleholds of the Islamic-Fulani oligarchy.
These three, Chukwuma Soludo, Enyinaya Abaribe, and Peter Obi have been tested, therefore nationally electable individuals together with a few other persons who must be worth their weight in gold should be invited by the Ohaneze Ndigbo to a Screening Forum where their credentials and views should be scrutinized before two or three of them should be sent to represent the Southeast as potential Presidential candidates in key political parties in Nigeria against the backdrop of the 2023 presidential succession.
Utmost care should be taken to avoid certain impostors who are currently shouting themselves hoarse about their desire and vaulting, almost criminal ambition, to become “Igbo President” in 2023. Some of these impostors are semi-illiterate and quite shameless! As stated above, we will NOT tolerate any candidate whose sole qualification is his fat bank account or his connection with the Northern or Fulani emirs or oligarchy.
We want a home-grown, trusted and authentic President of Southeast extraction and not a stooge or a POLITICAL YOYO who will be pulled by an insidious political string and therefore, dance the music of some unseen political masters in the North or West of Nigeria.
We should make no mistake about it, this is the geopolitical turn of the Southeast to produce the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We must be very, very careful to avoid embarrassing ourselves before the entire nation.
Nigeria deserves the very best and the Igbos of the Southeast geopolitical zone has the best materials. We demonstrated this in the First Republic of Nigeria – in national politics, in the Armed Forces, the Academia, in International Diplomacy, in Business, in Diaspora exploits, etc, etc.
The Southeast geopolitical zone led this country before the 1967-1970 Nigeria-Biafra Civil War. We can re-enact that golden feat if we get our acts together and avoid impostors, charlatans, and court jesters hijacking this historic project. Look at the political, economic academic waves the sons and daughters of Southeast geopolitical extraction are making in the diaspora – in the United States of America, Canada, Europe, and elsewhere.
We still have their counterparts here at home! Let’s go for them and give Nigeria, our dear fatherland, the very best it truly deserves so that a President of Southeast geo-political extraction will succeed even where Presidents of Nigeria of other geo-political zones failed woefully.
